Welcome to our Physics Tips Daily - a newsletter on insider's tips and tricks in how to study physics smartly. Each day, you will receive an article and/or a visual tutorial on how to survive and excel in physics.
Today's topic is to learn to draw the diagrams for physics situation.
In virtually all physics situations, a diagram will be helpful. The majority of students are visual learners, so diagramming a problem is most beneficial.
In mechanics, diagramming forces and vectors is very common. Often, there are several forces or components of forces acting on some object. It's much too difficult to mentally keep track of all of these, so a vector diagram is created.
Aside from mechanics, diagrams are also useful in other areas of physics. In thermodynamics, pressure vs. volume graphs are often shown to illustrate various processes. This greatly simplifies things. Here a picture really is worth a thousand words.
In the study of optics, ray diagrams are absolutely essential for a clear understanding of the behavior of light. The bending of light through various surfaces can be shown on a diagram. They can explain why certain images are formed by lenses and mirrors.
As you proceed through your study of physics, you will find other diagrams useful too. These aren't just diagrams for you to read or look at. Instead, these are the types of illustrations that you should be able to produce to help your learning.
To sum it up, today's tip: Pick up your pen and paper, start diagram out the physics!
That should do it for today! Let's master physics the EASY way! "See" you tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Seize the Day!
